Apple Cider Whiskey Punch
Apple Cider, Ginger BeerMethod
Stir 2 cups whiskey, 6 cups apple cider and 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice in a punch bowl. Chill at least an hour. Top with 3 cups ginger beer only when you set it out, so it is still lively in the glass. Ice the bowl with one large block rather than cubes - it melts slower and keeps the punch from going watery. Apple slices and lemon wheels floating on top.
Garnish Apple slices and lemon wheels out of Apple
-
Daiquiri
Lime, Simple SyrupMethod
Shake 2 oz white rum, 1 oz fresh lime juice and 3/4 oz simple syrup hard with ice for a full 12 seconds. Double-strain into a chilled coupe. Fresh lime is the entire drink here - bottled juice makes a different and worse cocktail. No garnish needed.
Garnish Lime wheel (optional) out of Lime
-
Gin & Tonic
Tonic Water, LimeMethod
Fill a large glass to the very top with ice - a full glass melts slower than a half-full one. Add 2 oz gin, top with 4 oz cold tonic, stir once. Squeeze a lime wedge in and drop it. Cold tonic from a small bottle beats flat tonic from a big one.
Garnish Lime wedge out of Lime
-
Margarita

Moscow Mule
Ginger Beer, LimeMethod
Fill a copper mug or highball with ice. Add 2 oz vodka and 1/2 oz fresh lime juice, top with 4 oz ginger beer, stir once. Lime wedge. Ginger beer, not ginger ale - the bite is the whole point.
Garnish Lime wedge out of Lime
-
Paloma
Grapefruit Soda, LimeMethod
Salt the rim of a highball if you like. Fill with ice, add 2 oz tequila and 1/2 oz fresh lime juice, top with 4 oz grapefruit soda. Stir once. Grapefruit wedge, or lime.
Garnish Grapefruit wedge; salt rim optional out of Grapefruit
-
Pitcher Margarita
Lime, Simple SyrupMethod
Stir 2 cups tequila, 1 cup orange liqueur, 1 cup fresh lime juice and 1/2 cup simple syrup in a pitcher. Chill at least an hour. Add ice only when you set it out - ice in the fridge means the second round is water. Serve over fresh ice in salted glasses.
Garnish Lime wheels; salted glasses out of Lime
-
Rum Punch
Pineapple Juice, LimeMethod
Stir 3 cups white rum, 3 cups pineapple juice, 2 cups orange juice and 1/2 cup fresh lime juice in a large pitcher and chill. Pour 1/2 cup grenadine down the inside of the pitcher last and do not stir it - it sinks, and every glass pours out sunset coloured. Orange wheels.
Garnish Orange wheels out of Orange
-
Mojito
Lime, Mint, Simple SyrupMethod
Press 8 to 10 mint leaves gently against the side of the glass with 3/4 oz simple syrup. Press, do not shred - torn mint turns the drink bitter and green. Add 2 oz white rum and 1 oz fresh lime juice, pack with crushed ice, and stir up from the bottom. Top with club soda. Slap a mint sprig between your palms to wake it up and stand it in the ice.
Garnish Mint sprig, slapped out of Mint
